Demand for Mexican raspberry increases in the United States

In the last two years we have seen raspberry consumption in the US market grow by more than 25% in economic terms, according to Alan Ediger, vice president of sales at California Giant Berry Farms.

The demand for frozen raspberries has also increased recently due to the general public’s tendency to eat healthier and the ease with which raspberries can be incorporated into smoothies and other beverages.

To meet this growing demand, the United States imports a large amount of raspberry; imports occur mainly from Mexico between the months of October and May, a country that contributes 96% of these imports, this being the main supplier of raspberries to the United States.

Additionally, the main trade flow of raspberry in the world is the volume sent by Mexico to the United States, which had a value of 1,520 million dollars in 2020, an increase of 12.6% over the previous year and an increase of 87.7% compared to 2015.
