Strawberry

The total California strawberry acreage reported for 2021 is 36,487. The

Cultivated area has increased in response to the growing demand for

consumers. Acres planted in autumn, which reach production

maximum in late spring to early summer, increased by

5.7 percent. California’s volume is expected to increase in the second

fortnight of March. Weather conditions have been favorable for a

excellent quality and availability of fruit in all tailor-made districts

that advances the season. The maximum volume is expected to be greater than

2020, with 10 million trays per week at the beginning of May.

Consumer demand is increasing with more households than

they buy strawberries. Household penetration in 2020 increased by 2.3 points

compared to 2019, and strawberries are now at 67.1 percent of the

U.S. households.

Due to its success last year, the commission will also initiate an activation.

of buyers in partnership with Ibotta in May to boost the participation of the retail category during National Strawberry Month.
